In a significant operation, Ratua police arrested a 35-year-old man, Razzak Sheikh alias Tota, with four firearms, ammunition, and a motorcycle during a late-night raid. The incident took place near Nakti Bridge under the Mahannad Tola outpost when police were conducting a routine operation. Sheikh, a resident of Daulatpur village in Malda's Vaishnavnagar police station area, was traveling with an accomplice from Bihar towards Ratua. Upon noticing the police, the duo attempted to flee, but one suspect managed to escape on the motorcycle while Sheikh was apprehended.
A search of Sheikh's belongings led to the discovery of four 7MM pistols, four magazines, and four live cartridges. The authorities suspect his involvement in the illegal arms trade and other related criminal activities in the region. The police have not yet identified the accomplice who managed to evade capture but are continuing their investigation into potential links to a larger network operating in the area.
Following his arrest, Sheikh was presented before the Chanchal Mahakma Court, which granted a ten-day police custody for further investigation. Police officials stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking and ensure public safety. The authorities continue to follow up on leads regarding Sheikh’s connections and his role in the regional illegal arms trade.
